Default Starter Issue

I looked for my previous post but could not find it.

I removed the starter today and found the problem. The spring on the bendix is broken.

I came in to order one and see there is the original type and the new modern version.

Any opinions as to which is best or advantages/disadvantages of each type?

As Bob said, it sounds like a new spring will fix it, but make sure you buy new lock tabs for the bolts also. I always use the original style Bendix and don't have problems. Some guys like the new style because it doesn't have the bolts, but some guys also have had problems with the new style.
