Default 31 Grill Shell

I'm about to take delivery of a 31 Town Sedan...my first Model A since I sold the one my dad gave me in 1962.

I have a question about a grill shell I see on a Craigs List ad. Can anyone tell me where this grill came from. Aftermarket option? Are they still available?

I can't figure out how to attach a picture, but her is a link to the ad.

I know it's not stock, but is it something a hot rodder made up, or was it a period accessory?

Well, I think it looks quite classy, even though I have a one sided HEADACHE!

I like it! Leave it that way for a while until you get all the right parts and then make the decision. I still like the looks.

PS It also looks like it has the 16" wheels and the shuttered hood.

WoodLite lamps, a 3 door hood and a Chrysler shell, not sure on that last one, looks like someone had lofty Auburn or Cord ideas. I'm not at home,or I could reference my library, but I would say its an upper end nameplate from the Model A era. The lamps were found on Duesenbergs, Cords....etc. Neat looking car, someone sure was trying to fancy up that roadster.

As Tiny says, shell looks to be from a '32 Chrysler which makes it look very classy.

The wiper blade doesn't quite fit the windshield.

Modern assembly from different car parts.

Ummmm, is this what Sarah Palin was referring to when she said "Like putting Lipstick on a Pig"?

Just saying, for the right individual, those Woods lights if they are original (-and not the Mexican repros) will easily bring $2500.00, and the 3 door hood with the plated doors will likely fetch $750, and I suspect the grille would easily find a buyer at $1,500.00 if the plating is decent. That makes that car affordable to convert back to original should someone so desire however I'd bet to many lookers, they find it very attractive.

Nice car, the 16 inch wheels really set off the mods. As others said, a few "unauthorized" accessories. But the work looks good and it sure is an eye catcher.

I do think the price is high. Particularly if a complete original car is your objective. If the alterations are vintage, period issued parts then they have resale value as Brent pointed out. I am not sure they have enough value. But I have paid more than what others thought I should for a car just because of the "cool factor", and this car has a lot of cool in it.

Fantastic!
I wouldn't change it at all!
I don't smoke, but I think this car would go well with me smoking a cigar while driving it!

That being said, the elevated price already takes to expensive mods into consideration.

And I passed up a pair of Woods lights at an antique shop in S.D. about 25 years ago for $200 because I thought they were just TOO ugly.

I called the seller yesterday and he confirmed it is a Chrysler grille, and he said the hood was from a Chevy. Apparently it has a B engine.

He's selling it for a friend. He has a number of other restored cars for sale too.

I do like the look, so I'll be on the look-out for one.
