'40 coupe - tight choke rod control
I have very tight choke rod
1. on start up 2. after start up trying to cancel choke 3. after oiling doesn,t help is this common? thanks, fordman |

I would suspect your kicker assembly on the carb. I have 97's but probably the same basic setup as yours (94's) . If this part does not rotate properly, your choke rod will hang up. This would be the case even if you have a cable linkage.
I would disconnect the choke rod at the carb and rotate the assembly on the carb to make sure it is not hanging up. If it is, you can get parts to fix the problem or have one of the gurus on this site rebuild it for you. Last edited by 39topless; 06-07-2016 at 05:09 PM. |

It is common if you have repop dash grommets. They are simply made poorly and as such - too tight. You will find that greasing the rod where it goes through the grommet will help for a while. Another option? Run a small file through the opening and enlarge the space.
