I asked a similar question when I first visited the barn and was told "by hand, and very carefully."

It depends on what type of glue. I found a terrific method for removing contact paper adhesive and trust me I tried all the recommendations on the internet from mayonnaise to coca cola. (no joke). Out of desperation I sprayed orange aerosol bathroom spray and that 20 year old adhesive came right off. Test, test, test first.
