Clutch Wear
In my recently acquired '40, the clutch pedal has very little free play and needs to be depressed almost to the floor to shift gears. Operates with no chatter. Does this indicate that the disc facings are near the end of their service life? If so, any way to extend that life? Carl

Re: Clutch Wear
To address the question of worn out lining, I'd say there is plenty of lining.
Some "Long style" fingers are adjustable. If so, setting the fingers deeper will give more disengagement at the floor. This, of course, requires adjustment of pedal linkage to coordinate travel length, free play at the top need only be an inch.

Re: Clutch Wear
went thru the same problem this spring. Had plenty of disc left but the fingers had become out of adjustment.
I purchased a new flywheel and diaphragm PP/ dual friction disc from Centerforce. The cost difference between having the old stuff rebuilt w/ the flywheel turned vs brand new is negligible. Much better balanced, smoother engagement and a whole lot easier on tired old knees . AND [if] you don't tell anybody the purists will never know you went to a modern technology. |
