Oil for diesel engines
Walmart had Castrol 15/40 Diesel at $10 for 4 quarts, just wondering if there is any reason this would not work in the flathead ,is there that much difference than regular gas engine oil?

Re: Oil for diesel engines
the additives in diesel oil are suitable for older engines that run 'dirty'---more additives to control acid, and carbon from blowby-----ideal for old gas engines that don't get run a lot and have less than perfect mixture control

Re: Oil for diesel engines
And they have extra zinc additive. I have always run either shell rotella or chevron delo 15-40 in my flatheads. My other rigs are mostly diesels so one oil keep on the shelf.

Re: Oil for diesel engines
after I installed my fresh flatty I talked to the "oil guy" he is always quick with the answer and fast to show you in his thick spec book, he said the additive pack in diesel oils is among the best shell rotella T1 strait 30 is what he would recommend and added any diesel grade oil would be good.

Re: Oil for diesel engines
Diesel oil has recently undergone a formulation change required by the manufacturers. It has reduced the amount of heavy pressure additive, and is not recommended for non diesel use. I have used Castrol 25W-40 for many years.
