Default Fuel pump pushrod won’t come out.

I’m working an 8BA over to put in a ‘46 Mercury. The fuel pump push rod turns and goes up and down but I can not pull it out with a vice grips.
Whys zat?

Hard to believe that the hardened end of the push rod could be mushroomed over but it seems like the most likely possibility.

I have seen them peened over but also with hardened sludge build up--try running acetone down the shaft while turning and pulling

Thanks, will try acetone. I have a fresh can.
This engine was supposedly rebuilt recently and the owner wasn’t satisfied with it so the changed it for something more powerfull.
I think the push rod was put in up side down. It has oil grooves on the end sticking out.?

The 8BA push rods have a long and a short end, the long end with no grooves goes down. the short end with grooves goes up.

That’s the way it was on.
I poured some acetone down the pushrod and got a low grip with a needle nosed vice grips.
I used the edge of the hole as a fulcrum and pried the bush rod out.
It did have crusty crud built up on it as suggested.
I also saw the wok order from 2012 when the engine was rebuilt. It was in a ‘53 Ford.
I would say nobody wasted too much oil keeping the oil fresh.
I see a lot of neglect in car maintenance.
Anyway, thanks for the help and advice guys.
