Default 3:25 Gears

Anybody running these gears? I’m trying to get some feedback on 3:25 gears in a 34 coupe. I need better highway gears. I have a 200hp flathead. 16- 750 tires.

First question I would have is how are you getting 200hp, supercharged, turbocharged? Next, it would appear you are interested in performance, so why would you go to a 3.25 gear and kill it? If you are really spending that much time at highway speeds I would go to an overdrive so you keep the lower speed performance.

I loved my 3.25’s. I ran them in a 32 5W 276 flat with 19 tooth trans. It was super. It was the best thing I did with the car.

My buddy has 'em in his '36 with a hopped up flathead and a 3 speed...kept up fine with me on the freeway at 80 mph. That was in my old '36 5 window running a T-5 behind a stock 59A and a 3.50 rear. 6.00x16's on both cars.

I’ve thought about a overdrive. Just wanted to get some feedback. The T100 rts tranny is the way to go I think, but I can’t find one. It seems like 3:25 may be a option.

Some tall tires out back. maybe 3.56. But if you have some hp 3.25 will get you going.

I push about 95hp on my truck with 3.78s, 7.00 tires, and a 28% Mitchell. I would think if you are anywhere close to 150hp you'll be fine with 3.25s.

I had those gears on a 29 roadster pickup with a Model B engine. 750 16's. engine had a Cook 4 port with two Winfields carbs and Kong ignition. Very strong B. I loved those gears.

Tangled, you just steer #1, for the tree to stop #2, then go to the hospital 3#. Brakes are good.

I have 135 HP in 3650 Lb. car. 3:78 gears plus, what Mitchell calls, 36% overdrive. For my highway cruising I wish I also had a taller rear gear. Taller meaning 3.5 or 3.25

My buddy put 3:25 gears in a stock, 40 Ford sedan and they were perfect and we have very steep hills here. Super wish I had them in my 40.

Are these the ones that Speedway sells or from another vendor.

I think the 3.25 are only available from speedway, I could be wrong. Speedway is a great setup.

I have a set of 3.56 french cut joblots I packed away. Was going to use them on the truck. Maybe better for the 36 coupe.

Really like my mitchell on my 38t.

I put 3.25 gears in my '41 to get down to comfortable rpm at interstate speeds. The engine is a 284 inch flathead with mild street cam and loads of low end torque. Thought I might need to go to a 29 tooth cluster for lower low gear in hilly area, but it turns out to be not necessary. No problem getting going on steep hills.

But if you are anywhere near 200 HP, you must have a pretty wild cam, which means you are going to be burning up the clutch in traffic, even with the 3.78 gears.

Be sure your brakes are upgraded to handle the high speed panic stop.
