Default Motometer

I have a motometer on my '29 that has a small separation in the red column. Wondering how to get this fixed so the column is all together again. Suggestions ? Thanks. Bill

Take it off the radiator and thump it cap side down on your spare tire. This should work the red back down where it will join. Put a towel on your spare if you are concerned about maring the tire or it's cover.

Cover part of the radiator & run until the bottom red touches the upper red.

Overheat the engine?

My 28 did that enough without doing it on purpose.

Leo has it dead on.

The instructions that came with an original moto meter recommended thumping the moto meter cap side down on your spare tire to eliminate the separation.

my friend removed the cap and touched the bottom with a Bic lighter flame. Immediate success. Wayne

To make the RED go down, someone once suggested to swing it around in a circle, tied to a ROPE!!
Reminds me of a BLIND Man in a dept. store, swingin' his Seeing Eye Dog around by his tail----"Hey Buddy, whut's goin' on"?----"Oh, nothing, we're jist LOOKING AROUND"----

That's what I have done to restore a couple of Moto-Meters. I also, in between swinging, dip the bottom of the thermometer stem in a boiling
pan of water. For a minute or two then in a pan of ice cold water for another couple of minutes. Back to singing for a while then again the two
different pans. Repeating until the red has come down. Unfortunately, I
have had only a 50% success rate.

Shake it . . . Boil it . . . Jump up n' down with it.

Then again, you could just let nature take it's course.

Have an ancient brass bezel Boyce on our 31' sedan. Now and then the RED juice inside the tube separates and with use goes back together again.
