Default 37 windshield frame seal

Greetings to all:Trying to install ws frame seal( non drake) on my 37. Followed instruction sheet installing the shorter thinner side in frame . It wont even come close to fitting in the opening. Noticed an old ford bulletin that showed the longer side of the seal in the frame which would leave the shorted side to seal. Any body ran in to this before? I have not tried to force anything. Thanks for your time!

There is a barbed piece that goes into the groove to retain the seal. There is a short lip that faces the inside goes inside the windshield opening and the tapered side overlaps the opening. This is on a Carpenter seal. If the retaining groove is not clean you won't get the new seal installed. Make or use whatever it takes to get all the old rubber out.
