Speedway has for quick changes and I do believe for stockers too - also check Joblot Automotive .....

Several years of banjo rears had 3:78 gears - you might want to try picking up a rear with the gears you need already installed in the center housing .... it takes a bit of doing to get them in right (not like your normal rears of today).

At the present time no one makes 3:78 gears for 1935-37 rear ends using 10 spline pinion and drive shaft. To use the speedway gears you must change the coupling or change the driveshaft and torque tube to a 6 spline 37-40 unit.

m,
I just picked up a set of 3:78's from Dick Spadaro at Hershey. They are new
and have a six spline. I've built a few '35/'36 rears with his gears. You must
have the pinion end of you hollow driveshaft machined to accept the six spline
Ford driveshaft coupling. The coupling is then pressed and securely welded in place.
If you have a FLEET PRIDE shop near you they are quite capable of doing this work.

Personally, I would prefer good used originals... 3.78 should be a lot easier to find than 3.54...

The car in my avatar has a composite rear end, 1946 Merc center, 1936 bells... I put the 1936 carrier bearings onto the 1946 differential, used a very standard gasket arrangement for the gear backlash...

The Speedway gear sets, with 6 spline pinions, can be used in '35-'36 rears by doing as Charlie NY suggested. Take your stock hollow/tubular '35-'36 driveshaft to a reputable driveshaft shop and have them machine the ID of the 10 spline end to fit the OD of a six spline coupling. Then weld the coupling in place while keeping the length of the driveshaft the same as original.

Now if you can locate a good used or NOS 3.78 gear set, with a 10 spline pinion, they will drop right in a stock '35-'36 rear with no modifications required. This is what I installed in my '35 Avatar fordor sedan back in May before driving from Gettysburg PA to South Lake Tahoe in June. What a major improvement those 3.78 gears are compared to the original 4.11 gears they replaced

AMEN - Lawrie! Made a different driver of my 35. Did exactly what JM 35 Sedan said. Lower RPM at cruise speed = quieter, cooler , less fuel.

How is the quality on the speedway gears? Made in China or good quality machining?

The gear sets I have seen from Speedway are good quality, made in Italy. It would surprise me if all the dealers were not getting these reproduction gears from the same source and Speedway is just offering the best price. I know of three friends who have used the Speedway gears in either 3.78 or 3.54 ratios and all indicated they are quality gear sets, installed and setup nicely, and are giving good service.

I just put a Speedway 3.54 ring and pinion set in and Dick is who I ended up crying to when I took my torque tube drive-line into the local drive-line specialists here.

Dick supplied the 6 to 10 spline adapter and my drive line guy cut the old end off with a lathe (cut the old weld off) and inserted the new adapter as the new end to match the new pinion splines. Slick and strong.

My 36 has original 3.54's and even with 6.50-16's on rear it does fine in hilly N.E.
If you are going to buy gears go for the 3.54's
