tube shocks
Greetings: My 37 had a tube shock conversion years ago and I need to replace them. No brand name or number on the shock. Does anybody know of a supplier/manufacture that has a listing for shocks by dimension? They have eyes on both ends and I can measure the length. I would rather just replace the shocks rather than buy a complete conversion kit. I am starting on the rear first. Thanks!

Re: tube shocks
Here is one from Monroe. It is kinda hard to decipher.
http://www.monroe.com/assets/downloa...engthSheet.pdf Some shocks have the number stamped on the lower end near the lower mount. Clean and look there, might save yourself some misery. |

Re: tube shocks
Search the HAMB, there was a thread on there about this and a member had a very good shock list with dimensions posted.

Re: tube shocks
I had a similar problem with my '49 F-1 a few years back. It had tube shocks but no markings. I went to the local NAPA store and the guy there worked with me on all the dimensions using the Monroe Chart as reference. He worked it out and shocks fit perfect. I just think you need to find a guy that would take the time with your situation.

Re: tube shocks
Make sure the tube shocks have a long enough stroke. If stroke is to short it will tear the mounting bolts off the axle or frame. G.M.

Re: tube shocks
If you have the eyes on both ends you also need to measure the compressed and extended length of you existing shocks(center to center of the eyes). Then measure from mounting point to mounting point on your car with the weight on the car. That distance should be approximately half way between your extended and compressed length. Take your old shock and all your measurements to your local Napa store and they should be able to find you shocks that will fit.
