Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
Hi Folks,
I am in the process of rebuilding the front seats for my early '30 Tudor and I am not sure what the front pivot bolt, rod or pin looked like. When I got the car, each front seat had a long bolt that went thru both front supports on each seat. Each bolt was different, one had a square head and the other had a hex head. The other end of the these bolts was threaded and had a square nut on one and a hex nut on the other. These appeared to be home made. I always thought that each front support had a pin thru it, simular to the back rest pivots? Can someone please fill me in on what is correct. Thanks in advance. Chris |

Re: Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
This is what my late '29 Tudor has. Each pivot has a pin with a 'c 'clip fitting into a groove There is a washer behind the clip also.
Hope this helps you. |

Re: Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
Yes, the pivots should have pins and C clips. I have seen two styles of pins and don't know if they are both correct, or time specific.

Re: Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
Chris, As Tom said, the original pivot pins used 'C' clips. If you are not too concerned about originality clevis pins with small hitch pins work great and make it real easy to remove the seat if you need to.

The Hitch Pins seems to be a good idea. My car is restored to look original but I have several "upgrades" such as a B Engine and a Mitchell Trans and O.D. I want to be able to drive the car. Using clevis pins with small hitch pins may be the way to go. As you say, it makes the removel of the front seats much easier when it may be necessary to do so. Thanks for the suggestion. Chris |

Re: Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
Someone periodically lists NOS ones on ebay. I think $12 was the asking price for the pair.

Re: Tudor front seat pivot bolt?
I want to thank everyone for their input. The last Tudor I owned was back in the 50's and it seemed to me that the seats did not have a long rod or bolt for the front pivots but I was not sure. My memory has faded a little after a half century.
One thing about "The Barn" is if you have a question about how something is supposed to be on a Model A, there are plenty of knowledgable people to answer your questions. Thanks again, Chris |
