Wondering 2 things -
How do you hold the choke out when you're alone and hand cranking? Does this video show the correct hand position for preventing injury if it backfires? |

Re: cr"A"nk it in 45 seconds
I have tired of trying more than once. Now I put a gloved hand on the crank and get er whirling she kicks me out when she catches and passes my arm speed. I end up punching the apron. hence the reason for the glove. I learned this new method in a fit of anger when my starter bendix sheered its bolt on a hot summer day. I had places to go so I started it twice like that before getting home. I would stand to say the method is not safe as some injury and pain is almost guaranteed. I have gotten my car started with safe half turn methods but my ign was not so good at the time and it would not go that day.

Thread a piece of bailing wire thru the radiator and put a finger loop in it, attach the other end to the choke arm. As you crank pull the choke, then release.
