Default Distributor to spark plug connections

Hello ford barners I love the look of the stock distributors and the brass spark plug connections.......but do not like the fork in the brass to distributor terminals......loose, can not get a tight fit and feel this is a weak link in the ignition system......I know I can go to a modern style cap and spark plug wires but do not care for the look,,,,,,,,any other ways you have thought of to secure this end of the spark plug connectors ?????????/http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

They work fine. Just 'warp' them so they have nice tension between post and plug. Never had a problem. Not one has ever fallen off.

Bend them slightly so there is a slight force pushing towards the plug and they will stay put. Never saw one come off before and I used to drive a lot of gravel roads.

I no longer use the original style distributer....when I changed over the one of bubba's mallory's I made my own wires because I also hate the look of the modern wires in the model a engine bay. I used fabric wire and brass terminal ends that are all soldered on. Just my was of getting around the modern wires, you could always do something like that to keep it a little better looking.

It's FUN to replace the strips with REAL skinny Piano Wire.

The originals have worked fine for over 80 years. What makes you think they don't or won't work properly now?

When you buy the connectors be sure to buy the bronze ones, rather than the soft brass ones. If they looks like yellow brass, they are soft and won't spring into place as nicely as the bronze ones.

Once on Minerva, spark was jumping out of the # 4 track, in the dist body, to#3 strap. Took a strand of wire from a woven clothes line wire, formed a HIGH loop to #3 & drove her a MONTH, that way.
