camshaft lift and settings "hot"
I am going to install a 3/4 race camshaft that I have had in stock for a long time. Wolverine brand out of Michigan it is in mint condition and in the box. On the box it says settings are .013 and .015 hot. How do you do them hot or set cold at what number. Anybody. Fred

Re: camshaft lift and settings "hot"
I don't know, but I did read on a previous thread on this forum that although the cam cards say to set hot, on a flathead they are set cold because it is not practical to set them hot. The hot wording on the sheet may be there for all the monkey motion stuff.

Re: camshaft lift and settings "hot"
I think those tags are made for OHV engines that have push rods. I don't pay any attention to them. Some of those Wolverine cams have stock base circles.

Re: camshaft lift and settings "hot"
I always just set them cold - and usually 'tighten up' the lash just a bit. Seems that when I don't, then I will have to re-adjust them as they'll end up with a bit too much lash after break in and too much lifter noise. I usually reduce the value by .001 or so.

Re: camshaft lift and settings "hot"
I bought a Howard 3/4 cam from an engine builder and was told to set it to .012, .014 cold. I thought that was a bit tight, but it makes sense considering what it is when hot. Runs great.
Thanks for the insight. |
