Default 49-53 Offenhauser manifold

Will an 8BA manifold work on early 24 stud engines?

Late manifolds will bolt up, but fuel pump mount heights may differ, the carb will sit at an angle, and mods should be made for proper engine ventilation.

What kind of mods need to be made for engine ventilation? Will the carbs tilt forward or backward?

OK...fuel pump height is I believe same as long-rod early engines. The early fuel pump stand gives you the same inlet for ventilation as '35-48 engines, and the exit in pan is unaffected. You would plug the road draft tube in the manifold and the filler hole, or replace the filler with something with a sealing cap. Do not use the draft hole as a filler...I think if you did, most of the oil put in would go right out on your feet via the vertical tube to the pan vent!
Slant is forward. I've never noticed an actual effect from this tilt in an early car, but If I tried this swap now I might try to correct that.
