Re: Size of 3/8 pistons
I am going out to play soon, i will drag it out and take some pictures ---as to a "sonic test" finding a pinhole corrosion pit I don't think so except for luck the way I saw the test being done at a local shop---3 spots on the bottom, 3 spots on the top of the bore----perhaps other testers are better but to find a 1/64" corrosion pit it looked like it would take a long time going over every 1/64" of the cylinder walls
The walls are greased. I will clean them, get better #s, perhaps I will only need 1 special piston |

Re: Size of 3/8 pistons
If you read my book you will see that I agree with your assessment of sonic testing to find a miniature thin spot. It requires several hours to grid and check a block.

Re: Size of 3/8 pistons
I took some pictures inside the block, I only see one of the cleanest water jackets I have ever seen in a used flathead block. This picture is showing the base of #5 and inside of pan rail

Re: Size of 3/8 pistons
Looking down between #3-4 --it's as if a new block was punched out to 3/8 and only run for a short time
I cleaned the bores with a rigid hone, all the bores will be good at 3/8+.002---now to see hows special that size is Last edited by Kurt in NJ; 03-06-2016 at 11:57 AM. |
