I remember the first issue of Hemmings classic car featured a story about a 1929 coupe still owned by the original owner and he was in his 90s then. I believe the issue was from 2004 or 2005.

Even someone who got a Model A for their 16th birthday would be at least 105. Possible, yes. Probable, maybe not.

I know I look OLD, but I get asked, every so often, if I bought my 1931 new.

Running joke in our club.

Admirer of a member's car: Nice looking car.

Me in the back ground: Yes it is and he bought it new!

I'm 30 years years old, I'm not joking when I tell you I've been asked if I bought mine new. No, they weren't joking either.

I met an original owner of a 29 roadster at the Dayton National MARC meet in, I believe, was 1997. Can't remember his name, but there were write ups in the Model A News during that period. I asked him how many miles did he have on the roadster. Without missing a beat, he told me "about 500,000 miles". He delivered mail in the roadster for many years. He was in his 90's, still active and driving his roadster at that time. He has since passed. I seriously doubt there are any original owners of Model A's living today.

One day when I had my A out, someone complimented the car but finished with "but it's all replica, of course". I assured him it wasn't and asked why he thought that. "It couldn't possibly have lasted all that time", he replied. Yes, I've also been asked if I bought it new.

Mike Peters- I cannot remember the man's name either, but I had the good fortune to park next to him after the mandatory tour in Dayton and talked with him about the Roadster. I believe upon his death he left the car to the AACA museum in Hershey.

Thanks Neil. That is a great story.

Now since that Model A had over 400,000 miles on it, I presume the engine had probably been replaced a few times during its life...and the 3 restorations. Which makes me think of thread with Brent's thought that the title goes with the engine. That might mean that the original title with this car would have to be changed with every engine change....?

Anyway, great story. Now I wonder out of 4 million+ Model A's how many more stories like this there may have been but we will never hear about.
