Fuel filters
Using a Facet pump as backup in the '40. In the roadster I used the Wix 33081 which has a 1/8" Male pipe thread on one end that threads directly into the pump inlet side. The other end of the filter is female inverted flare, which limits your options as to methods of connection. I will never use a push-on hose nipple and clamp as that's mickey mouse in my opinion. Anyone know of a Wix, Purolater or other brand fuel filter that has 1/8" male pipe on the outlet side, and female or male pipe thread on the inlet side. Went through the Wix catalog at NAPA and couldn't find what I wanted. Photo of the Facet w/33081, and the 33081.
Thank you. |

Where are you mounting the pump?

Re: Fuel filters
russcc I have an Airtex flow through pump on my "46 Coupe, that I only use occasionally, to "prime" the carb if the car has sat for a long time. As can be seen in the pic., it and the filter are mounted on the frame rail, just ahead of the axle. I used the mickey mouse clamps that I bought from Walt, figuring it should be safe, as the pump only puts out 3 to 3 1/2 PSI on the discharge side when it is running, and very little, if any pressure when running off the stock pump on the engine. So far, no issues and no leaks.

Re: Fuel filters
The Facet is sitting on top of the rear cross member. The electric pump is prime, and backup only. Any other fuel filter mfgs other than Wix or Purolater ?

Quote:
The pump should be located where the fuel line is the lowest and close to the fuel tank. (not above the tank) The pump needs to be in prime (fuel in the line)

Re: Fuel filters
Good point about location. Where I was planning to put it is about level with the. '40 fuel line where is comes out of the tank, and about 12" away. Will test it 1st to see if it works there.

Re: Fuel filters
Photo of the Facet pump and Wix filter in the roadster. This is the type of fuel line setup I prefer. The fuel tank has a shutoff at the tank, and the fuel line connections are all 45 degree SAE female swivels. This why I was looking for a fuel filter that has pipe thread at inlet & outlet. The Wix 33081 only has 1/8" pipe on the outlet end. The inlet end in this example is female inverted flare which limits your fitting options

Re: Fuel filters
Checked the Facet mounting instructions, "locate within 12 vertical inches from the tank bottom", so the cross member is perfect. The Facet pump, if you have not used them are solid state, self regulating to the pressure range and flow you select in Model #s.
