Default Vin number

I recently acquired a 1928 Ford pickup truck. I have had many Model A vehicles and have never seen a vin number like this. The vin number is *RF2923* . Has anyone else seen a vin like this? I feel certain this was stamped at the factory. Thanks for the help.

Thanks so much for the information. First time I ever came across such a vin number. This truck came from Colorado.

Ok I am picky. It is VIN. VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. So VIN Number would be Vehicle Identification Number Number.

And that is what the serial number is, a vehicle identification number!

VIN Number legal definition. Don’t get mad at me. I am just reporting what I see. I would call it a serial number, ID number, or maybe something else, but not a VIN number

A VIN is composed of 17 characters (digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for the vehicle. A VIN displays the car's unique features, specifications and manufacturer. The VIN can be used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts and insurance coverage.
