I understand. I just could not tell if you had any local club members to fall back on.
Ask away, you are asking good questions. Do not be in a hurry to condemn something on your car; gather information first, which is what you are doing. We are here to help. And yes the world of fuel injection is a whole different world. You however are now back in the world of automotive engineering evolution.

BTW the best time to call Dan is at night. An even better way is his email
[email protected]

BTW I would suggest Permatex Ultra Black on the valve cover gasket. It will stand up to oil. Blue silicone RTV will not. I actually only use the ultra black on the lower half of the valve cover, since oil doesn't pool any higher than that (if that high), and just rely on the gasket at the top half

tbird - do you put the Permatex on just the block side or both the block and valve cover side for the lower half?

both. since this is an area where oil tends to pool, it tends to be leak prone

[QUOTE=1955cj5;1296235]Does that oil line get as close to the exhaust pipe as it appears in the photo in post #14?

Maybe the oil line is just getting hot and causing the erroneous pressure reading?

This would be physically impossible! If heat expanded the oil in the line, it would just flow back into the oil pan through the pump (if the engine were not running) so there is no extra pressure build up. Since the engine is running, the oil pump is putting out 'X' lbs. pressure at 'X' RPM and this is all the gauge will read, no matter how hot the line gets.

You are right of course.....now that I think about it a little more you could not exceed the pump pressure even if it did expand some.....and there must not be any backflow restriction as the pressure drops to zero after shut-down

What about air in the line?

Would that affect the pressure reading?

Air in the line won't change the reading either.

Tom, on the barn it is always possible to violate the laws of physics

Interesting thread - thanks.

To chime in late on this thread. As mentioned this is normal with this filter. My gauge pegs untill it warms up.

I have one observation, the pipe on the rear main bearing,is it homemade and not extending far enough into the oil pan causing the rear main oil leak.In your photo can't see the entire pipe.I had that problem recently.

Did you ever resolve this issue?

I believe so. Seems to be normal given that I have an oil filter. The return tube is the right length. I just need to check to be sure the tube is set correctly at the top near the rear main. A project for later this month.
