1940 ford chrome lever and switch plate
Hello, need to change my switch plate for my ignition on my 40 but first need to remove the chrome lever. Is the lever screwed on or is there a set screw I'm not seeing. Or does it come off another way? I know this is probably trivial to Ford guys but I haven't had this car very long and am learning most things by myself. Any and all help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Deleted. After seeing the next reply, realized I misunderstood the original question.

No, not screwed on. It’s on a splined shaft. I used a staple puller to lever it up.

Re: 1940 ford chrome lever and switch plate
A trick I use is to wrap a thin piece of electrical (or any kind) of tape around the perimeter of the switch before removing the two screws which hold it on. This enables you to get the unit to your work bench where you can disassemble it on your terms rather than pick up the pieces off of the floorboard. To reinstall it, reverse the process, removing the tape after the two screws are in and snug.

QUESTION: When prying that lever UP and OFF is there any chance of that spline shaft breaking?
Is it malleable steel or cast metal? |

Re: 1940 ford chrome lever and switch plate
Update on lever removal. Got the chrome lever off today. Got a wood shim like you would use on a door in your house. Put it under the lever and used a screwdriver to pry it off. It came off really easy which surprised me. Now I can install the new switch plate and the the chrome lever. Thanks to all that had information on this!
