New 6V Napa coil shorts to ground in the firewall mount. Outside of the mount coil works fine put it in the strap and no fire. Insulate the mount with black tape and it works.

Take it back for replacement. New things do fail.

I also had a bad NAPA coil, only mine was 12 volt.

yea coil is grounded to case which shouldn't be... take it back and get a new one.

Both sites were great Keven, thanks. I once replaced my spark plugs(modern car) due to a miss traced to plugs, but it did not solve the problem. Changed wires, gaskets and sundry other items. Well I finally found the trouble and it was a plug, an old one and then 1 new one I replaced it with. New does not = working all the time.

I have since talked to several guys locally that have run into the same problem. Taking it back today and I am taking my meter to make sure the replacement isn't grounded.
