Spark plug question
I have been using Motocraft TT10 spark plugs. I decided to order a set of Champion W18 as recommended in an earlier post. I ordered them through a local parts store. When I picked them up the box looked quite long. The box is labled 518 W18. The plugs are quite a bit longer than the TT10's. From the ground electrode to the shoulder that contacts the head is about 1/8 in. longer. From the shoulder to the top is about a 1/4 longer. The reciept lists them as ag/ind. plugs. Are these correct? Will the extra length interfere with the pistons. I haven't installed them so they could be returned. Thanks Howie

Re: Spark plug question
The W-16 / W-18 should be fine.... take a look at original-equipment Champion 3 X plugs sometime... they have a LONG reach...
They are listed as an "Agricultural / Industrial" plug because no car or truck has used them since about 1935... The old Model L Gravely two-wheel walk-behind tractors continued to use the TT-10 / W-18 plugs until Gravely stopped making their own engines, in the early 1970's. I just put a set of Autolite 3076 plugs in my '28, as that's what was available locally. I would love to try some 3 X plugs, but just can't bring myself to install my new ones in a driver car.... (PS: the plugs sit over the valves, not the pistons... ) |

looks really good. I, too, have used the more economical Autolite 3076 and they worked fine for about 3.00 bucks a pop------but they look kind of puny once installed. One of our astute Barners----if he is listening----can tell you more about spark plugs than you will ever want to know, lol. Jack
