X's on the engine number???
Sometimes I see Model A's with a thin "X" over or under the digits of the engine numbers. I can't tell if the thin X's are stamped over the digits or if the digits are stamped over the X's, but the digits were still clearly visible.
Does anyone know why? Or know what this means? |

Re: X's on the engine number???
Maybe a rebuilder did this when the engine went in different car? On mine the engine number has been milled off and has the numbers 691946. I take this to be a rebuilders date of June 9th 1946. Yes that means I'm cruising a 67 year old rebuild

Re: X's on the engine number???
I have permission to take a picture of one as long as I don't reveal the complete engine number. I'll get a chance to do it in a few days.
Re-builder.....Different car? Sounds very possible. Thanks. I'll get a picture posted later sometime soon. |

Re: X's on the engine number???
I've seen where it was stamped from the factory with an X. I was told it was where the guy on the line stamped the wrong number. An X was stamped over it and the correct number stamped next to it. Also seen it done on the frame number. Makes sence to me. The line worker gets in a hurry and accidentally grabs the wrong stamp.

Re: X's on the engine number???
I saw in one of my engines a series of numbers in different parts, for example in the cylinder head number 26 and the valve cover another number ...
I have another engine with the prefix AF ... |

Re: X's on the engine number???
Ratamahata: "AF" deals with cars built rhd. I read somewhere it was for cars built in England for export but could be wrong.
