Ford38, thanks for mentioning it. I had not thought of it so will look at the frame and see if the original stamping is there or if the plate is covering it up. I wonder if the previous owner put the plate on cause the old stamp was hard to read?

More than likely, it is a new, 'State-issued' serial number, usually because there was an issue with the legitimacy or authenticity of the original number. It sometimes de-values a vehicle if it has a state-generated serial number instead of it's original serial number. It DOES NOT, however, mean that the new number is not legitimate, but that there WAS some sort of problem with the original number (or lack of) at some time in the past, and that the State of issue of the NEW number is now convinced that the previous "issue" has now been legally resolved....in that State's eyes. Nice car! I really like stock, black, blackwall tire, 38 Fords.
You have a Chandler Groves / Holley / Ford carburetor, model 94. It uses the same style main jets as all the common Holleys still sold these days. You can purchase new main jets in sets of 2. The last time I went looking for main jets the lowest price I found was at Jegs: https://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/Holley...43724/10002/-1
