Holley 94 throttle shaft
I have a new Holley 94 throttle shaft. Fits really nicely in the throttle bore with zero play. The lever needs to be peened onto the shaft end. How would be the best way to do this without damaging or bending the brass shaft?

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I would think a vise with soft jaws(rubber around the new shaft) and as close to the lever as possible would work. Then a drift to peen the brass lever end down. Help me guys, where's CharlieNY to chime in. Be patient more experienced help is on the way.

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
Thanks Gary, originals seem to have a deeper hole drilled in the end for a better mushroom. I was thinking the same on the vise with an air hammer. Figured somebody on here has done this with good results.

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
How about tapping the shaft so you could use a machine screw to hold it in place?

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
Jack's got it.....I use a 6 - 32 BUTTON head allen screw. If you go this way it is best to
grab the shaft in a lathe to drill the hole before tapping. The manufacturer fixtured everything and smacked the end of the shaft HARD. This operation rolled the brass over but most importantly caused the brass to bulge out against the 'hole' in the arm. I just reread your post....if you have an air hammer and soft jaws in a good vise that might work too. Charlie ny [email protected] 716 440 8952 |

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I would think , Clean both sides of the Plate on a small wire wheel and the Brass shaft and Sweat Solder the shaft in place, both sides, it can always be reheated and moved if desired at any time , nothing will get damaged MHOpinion .. R

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I would use the Paste solder Flux and a good grade of solder 50/50 or Better

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
Whatever you do, do not hammer on the end of the shaft without it being completely supported inside another tube with very little clearance. I started tapping on the end of one of mine while I held in in a vice, and it promptly collapsed like a pretzel.

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I second this. The "slots" in the shaft for the butterflies make it very weak.

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I plated out the accelerator lever this morning. I chucked the shaft up in a vise with two oak pieces and slowly peened out the shaft with a trim hammer. I worked back and forth on peening it and expanding it with drift hits to the drilled hole. It turned out ok and tight. Doesn’t look factory but close.
My black oxide kit should be here Monday and I can dip the base and complete the carb assembly. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated! JB |

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft
I hold the shaft in a lathe collet and peen with a flat face punch and hammer.
