I've read that you should use woven lining on steel drums and solid lining on cast iron drums, is that correct? Can you arc the woven lining? Are their any suppliers that sell the solid lining that I can install myself or should I have a brake shop glue the solid lining on?

I doubt you can bend the shoe if you glue the hard lining on the shoe. Why change Ford's design, buy the woven lining and rivet them to the shoes then you can bend them as I suggested in my earlier post. the woven linings work great with the new reproduction brake drums. Sorry about you AR guys, you have a problem finding good drums. All the reproduction drums I have seen are the later type. Maybe someday someone will manufacture the AR drums, it is probably a matter of supply and demand.

Well. the shimming did not work too good.

It caused a longer arc, and the holes would hardly reach each end.

So, I placed a shoe in a small 6 ton press and gave it a couple of pumps.

It bent easy.

I knew it would, I could flex it with my hands in a vice.

The woven linings were still not quite able to reach the end holes even without shims.

Guess that is the aftermarket lousy tolerance to put up with.

Anyway, did 2 shoes and bent them and they fit great,

So I may have it ready by wednesday for Australia day show.

Arlyn, I do agree now, that there ain't much lining to sand of in a re-arcing machine with standard shoes and worn drums.

3/16ths and half of that is gone just to the rivet head at least.

So that leaves 3/32nds to sand to get true.

Arlyn, there is someone who makes them! I think it is Brattons who supplys them. Its just a case of the huge $ shipping from the USA to Oz

I stand corrected! I just checked Brattons and they do sell the AR drums. Unfortunately not for $300 a set but they are available. Thanks for correcting my post.
