What makes a valve "tick"?
What is the mechanical or physical event that makes a valve tick, and how long should you let one "tick" before it does damage and what gets damaged?
Bonus point: What makes my wife tick? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: What makes a valve "tick"?
A true valve tick occurs when the valve to lifter clearance is excessive. Sometimes caused by the valve sticking in the valve guide. There is rarely any damage that occurs.

Re: What makes a valve "tick"?
Plus this ethanol gas dries the valve stem I use Marvel Mystery Oil which I believe helps lube the top end. if you have taken an engine apart lately the internal parts are very dry and white, even with small gas engines and "A".s, Remove your carb, let dry out it will be Dry and white from the gas.

Re: What makes a valve "tick"?
Bonus offered, on how to make your wife tick?
Try a wonderful surprise trip to Venice or Paris -- there was once a song: "Enjoy Yourself, It's Later Than You Think! It is true. Noisy valves ticking, she could care less -- whatever happened to any young or older girlfriend being the "most" important thing in our lives? True "young" love & respect can never be given away by "younger" or "older" persons -- it always bounces back! This advice is never in the Model A manuals & never will be. Serious question, serious answer. Hope this helps! |

Re: What makes a valve "tick"?
Usually MMO is added in the gas tank as a top cylinder lubricant & valve guide lubricant; i.e., add about 4 ounces per 10 gallons of gasoline.
If your valve clearances are much more than what is recommended, MMO may not help to keep your valves from ticking. Humble opinion: Giving one's wife a gift of a container of MMO to make her tick may be as effective as buying her a mop & a bucket for a Christmas present. |

I'd like to have the ticket sale concession: The stage is set in the neighbor's driveway, all the folks on the block gathered, (paying ticket holders) to watch "TED THE TORCH" remove the bucket from "SAM STUPID'S" head!!
