Default Need information on an engine part

can someone describe the function of the oil baffle (part # 6524)? there are 2 of theses parts in the engine just under the carb manifold that are attached by spring force to the oil galley tube.

There are a couple of holes under them if the baffles arenŽt there youŽll have more oil splashing around in the valvearea then wanted.

They help to control the flow of oil in the valve area. Without them you could find excessive oil consumption. There are a couple of slightly different designs from ford. Make sure to get the correct year and if they have the "F" stamped mount the F toward the front of the engine.

thanks guy's this helps a lot. i was going to make my own oiling system for the valves but you all say that the splash system is all it takes to get the right amount of oil up there. when i first saw that there were on oiling system for the valves i was very concerned about this. Henry ford engineers
done what they could at the time with what they had to work with.

Don't think a lack of oil to the valve spring, lifter area in the valley is an issue, too much oil can be! Increasing oil flow into the valley area would not be a good idea. In a high performance application you would be doing things to get the oil out of the valley area as quickly as possible.
