Other than magic, is it just oil mist?

Re: v8 motor valve assembly oiling
It is a fairly violent environment inside a running engine. Oil is flying everywhere, so much so that without the baffles below the fuel pump stand it tends to blow oil (oil vapor) out.

Some have reported, in extreme cases, of introducing a small ( be careful here-do not want to cause death by hydraulic lock ) drizzle into the carb while running at a high idle. This can help to unstick valve(s) on a motor that has been left to sit. Those that use MMO on a regular basis don't experience valve operating problems. We do, however, have to put up with the naysayers who can't appreciate your observation of the oil flow not being directed to the top. Mart and JSeery are correct that splash does an incredible job of moving oil inside the motor. My avatar has NO oil pump other than the the magneto magnets and the crank throws splashing the oil all about. Once I failed to tighten a starter bolt on the 'T'. The immediate result was an oil puddle, the same as an improperly fit full flow filter.
