Neil, I think if you google it you would find one. I also got mine on ebay but they should be elsewhere also.

The are very small. A lipstick charger is $12.99
So that we understand the portable chargers are cheap, you plug them in to charge them and put them in you car, toss 'em your tray whereever.....they will charge your phone etc a couple of times before you need to charge the charger. Better than wiring, drilling holes etc...IMHO

Mike, wish I had found out about this idea before I went to all the trouble of installing the converter in my coupe and burning out two plug cords for the GPS (wrong polarity-I am the non electrical guy).

How and where did you wire it?
Thanks, Neil
Here is the link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-8-12-Volt-...d45b7a&vxp=mtr

$59.00 + 4.54 shipping.

I installed it on top of the steering column under the gas tank, you have to look under the steering wheel to see it, I also put a toggle switch on the input side so I can shut it off. I made a "L" shaped bracket that holds the converter and the toggle switch out of about 1" wide thin metal, which I just zipped tied to the column with black ties. The cig lighter socket is mounted on the passenger side top of the floor board next to the side "kick panel", my carpet covers it so it is "out of the way" and not seen. I pulled power from the starter where the battery cable connects, I recommend an in line fuse, to protect for the converter, and reduce the fire risk. I used one of the floor board bolts as a ground point, just make sure to clean any paint off from the bolt to get a good ground.

How often do you really need to charge something or run a GPS ????
Just when you are on an overnite trip ,.,.,
Why not just buy a compact 12 volt jump box ,. they make some small ones ,. you could run all your gadgets and take in the motel room and recharge it at night ,., They come with all those plug ins already on them ,.,
All that wiring and mounting plugs ,.. makes me tired .,

My wife feels she needs to have all her "i-stuff" plugged in all the time when in the car. (Modern car as well).

Wiring wasn't all that difficult. (see pictures - post #4 above)

Happy wife, happy life!
