Default fitting a spare wheel well to a 28 CCPU

Does anyone have a tutorial and measurements of where a spare wheel well is situated in a plain fender and how it is fitted to look original?

I think the hole is cut about 1/2 inch smaller than well opening and that 1/2 inch is folded down and welded inside well?

I have seen a layout of the position in the "Mike's A-Fordable Parts" catalog. Check their web catalog, it might be there as well...
And they say that yes, the hole is smaller then the well and the excess is folded down and welded inside.

A new well should come with all the measurements.Years ago,I installed a well in a 28 P U. I cut out the opening with a fine tooth blade in a sabre saw.

No paperwork with this one, and checked Mike's site, no details.

Pages 4-36 and 4-37 in Les Andrews' MODEL A FORD MECHANICS HANDBOOK, VOLUME II has all the info you're looking for.

Send me a PM if you need a picture.

WOW, Thanks Al, funny thing is I have that book on the floor right beside me, have not read it yet.

I was about to give up and go find one with a well and measure it myself.

Thanks for info.

edit.

Just had a look at book, can't find any info on where to cut the hole for the support that goes thru the splash apron.

I suppose I could make a dummy short support and see where it meets the underside.

Thanks Don, great info, your fixture is neat.

As I do not have a grommet yet, what size hole would you suggest for the 28 apron hole?
