Default Top Dressing

I know this subject has been covered before but I can't seem to find any info in the archives. I would appreciate some suggestions as what to use.

'29 tudor top that was purchased from LB and installed about 40 years ago. It appears to be in good shape but looks rather dull. I am looking for some tried and true product that will help prolong the life of the top.

TIA for any information.

Check back with laBarron-Bonney. I used their product on the huckster top after a mild soap and water cleanup. Looks great months later. Bob

I too have been looking for top dressing. Was told by one of the vendors that Black Tire dressing Dupont 7 is nearly the same, which is only available at Harley Davidson with there name on it, I purchased some $5 for 16oz, have not used it yet.

I have a 1932-1934 Dural paint chip book and this is hand written in the front cover:

Top Dressing
2 Quarts of black enamel
1 quart of turpentine
1 pint of neatsfoot oil

Probably wouldn't work with modern materials but I'll be it worked fine with the old stuff.

After searching around I found a pretty darn good product put out by Griot's. It's their vinyl top dressing. Not cheap but very effective. My Tudor top is very old but in great shape. This product is not too shiny and goes on easy. lasts several months.

Gary,

This is where I buy my car care products. I don't think anyone spends more time trying to perfect their products and they are excellent to work with.

Talking Re: Top Dressing

I am assuming the tops on our cars are vinyl..? I haven't gotten that far up the car.. still stuck in the engine compartment!!!!

For rubber and vinyl I recommend Aerospace 303. Very good stuff, it cleans and protects.

For leather I only use Lexol.

I believe that Snyders and Brattons both carry the correct top dressing. I don't have their catalogs in front of me to confirm this.

Just used the (Harley Black Tire Protectant) It worked very well on my 31 Twodoor with original poor top. It is a Black pigment polymer paint, with a satin gloss.

Willobs-Do you think your Harley product will "waterproof" a porous original top (Tudor)?

Thumbs up Re: Top Dressing

Top dressing will also put a shine on your old tired running boards!
