Re: What oil for trans? stock 1935
Yep, believe that says Grease right there on the label, LOL. I'm sure it is for it's intended purpose. It may work in a transmission, I would have no idea (and don't intended to find out!). If someone wants to run it, have at it, just wouldn't recommend it to someone asking what should be used.

Re: What oil for trans? stock 1935
Does your 35 still have it's straight cut first-reverse gears ?
If yes you may like SAE 140 GL4 better as it cuts down some of the noise in first-reverse . And it doesn't leak as bad . Pic is from a 1934 service bulletin and as you can see it calls for SAE 160 above freezing . Hard to find SAE 160 so SAE 140 is the best choice nowadays . Remember a 1935 tranny is not really much different than a 1934 if stock . The references to SAE 90 are for LATER year Fords . Not yours. Last edited by David J; 02-21-2018 at 12:13 PM. |

Re: What oil for trans? stock 1935
Just posted it as it was referenced .
No I would definitely not use it in a car tranny or rear end . Now the steering or u-joint is a different story and I have indeed used it there in cars that have not had their steering box or u-joint cavity properly sealed up . When properly sealed up I use SAE 140 in both and the tranny and rear . Quote:
