Default 40 Standard radiator in a 39 Standard?

Have a 40 Standard radiator and a friend with a 39 Standard that needs a radiator and would like to help him out.

From what I can find 38-39 Standard are the same with 39 Deluxe and 40 Standard/Deluxe being the same.

Friend doesn't care if it is "correct" as long as it fits without having to make mods.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

They are not even close to each other. I would think attempting to accommodate the wrong shape radiator would cost more in time and money than it would be to locate the correct radiator.

As the pictures above show, the '39 standard radiator is tall and narrow while the '40 radiator is short and wider. I've not tried it, but with the way the '39 standard narrows in the front, I don't believe you could get the '40 radiator installed ahead of the engine.

Beginning with the 1939 Deluxe on through 1941, the fan was mounted on the crankshaft. The front of the frame was modified to fit this type radiator so it is low and many have a crank hole through the middle. The 1939 standard with the fan still on the generator is different as was mentioned.

All of the prior advice is spot on. I've restored numerous deluxe and standard 39 models. No how - no way will the two different radiators interchange.

In addition to what's been said above, you shouldn't forget that a '39 STANDARD radiator also employs the steady rods which attach to the firewall, unlike on a Deluxe. Below is a '39 STD. DD

V8: Will the position of that coil cause it to overheat? Plus, it looks out of place.

Fair question, I guess. Of course, the coil is an aftermarket 'can' type. It's pretty-much in the stock location. Nowhere near the exhaust, so it should run NEAR water temp considering it's location near the head/intake, but I suppose it is being cooled somewhat via it's mounting directly in the airflow behind the fan. Not my car...just something that I found on the ol' INTERWEB. By the way, those orange "Ford" markings did NOT come on factory 'assembly line' water hoses. Only on replacement hoses. DD
