Shift fork
Hope everyone is having a good day, I've almost finished rebuilding my transmission with the help of Mr. Van Pelt , but on our last conversation,he figured out I had a homeade shift fork. If anyone has an affordable 91A7230 shift fork it would be very helpful. Thanks for your help on this.

Re: Shift fork
To support my 91a fork habit I purchase whole transmissions......usually open drive
'42 - '52 truck. As is at a swap meet, take your chance $75 -$100. Over time 8 out of 10 yield good 78 series cases and 91a forks. Gotta deal with filthy , greasy stuff or pay up. Charlie ny |

Re: Shift fork
I think what Charlie is saying is that a good 91A shift fork is probably worth at least $100.

Re: Shift fork
Thanks for the reply, I actually found one on the swap meet side of The Barn. Those are very hard to find for sure. Your idea for the swap meets is a good one, but where I live, there's just not that many here that I can get time to go to.

Re: Shift fork
I had a spare NOS 91A fork on here a few years ago for $100. One member said he could buy the whole shift tower for $50. I sold mine for $100 to someone else the next day.

Re: Shift fork
Mac VP found a source for new ones for a time but his supply seems to be out of stock and I doubt that Bob Drake has any either. The CVD 19 virus mess has put the whoa binders on a lot of stuff like that lately.

Re: Shift fork
I had a wild thought some years ago. I did some measuring and it looked lihe a 91A fork was offset the width of the fork. I was going to clamp a cut back side shift fork to the back of an earlier fork and weld it on to the boss. The old fork would be cut back and more weld would be added to the new fork.
I had a fork from a side shift and the other fork so it would have been a cheap experiment. I never did it. |

Re: Shift fork
I had a member on the swap meet tell me he was an engineer and mentioned that.don't know if he tried it or not. I accidentally deleted the message, I'm not real computer savvy.

Re: Shift fork
Mine isn't like that and has no part number. Close but no cigar.

Re: Shift fork
There really is no set price for these old parts. Yukon, OK may be a cheap market or remote. Affordable sounds like a cry for mercy on that fork. In a pinch have opened up the '36 to '39 "68" forks and moved the fork on the rod with good success but not a task for all. At the swaps I've been quoted all manner of prices for the "91" forks and "81 shift tops with the "91" forks from $50 to just silly and beyond for the whole tops and even more if it comes with a swan handle. For the price of a pin and a drill bit, the choice is yours. Make your own luck: Fred A
