what is interesting to that in the JS is that its almost like hens teeth to find an original black one, let alone one with traces of black paint on it... Does anyone have one???

I have never seen one, and did not know they came in black until your post #6 Mark. It wasn't until this morning when I pulled out the standards that I had a hmmm moment.

Yes interesting isn't it, It was also mentioned at the undercarriage seminar of the same, that is really a hmmmm moment!

What's up with the black paint on the distributor? It looks 30 years old.

Actually what you are looking at is one of the rarest dizzy that exist. that is not black paint but what you are looking at is BRASS, it was left like that and just cleaned to be able to show the brass. This is as close to impossible to find as there is, if I am correct only 3 people in the hobby own one.

Lots of good info here. This dist. that im working on also had a Ford script dist. body that looks like its never been used. How old are the script bodys?

I often wonder, just because it has a FORD script, is it REALLY OLD, or later produced GENUINE PARTS. "Might have been made on 06-17-1938"?? Worked for Ford in '59 & they poked SCRIPT on most everything, Just like us, they liked to see their name EVERYWHERE!!! MUCH history is well DOCUMENTED, but I wonder if some is "MADE UP"?

You're right Ron....it could be ? I like the mystery of this stuff as much as the car itself ! Its kind of neat finding a distributor thats steal tight as new with poss. 80 yr old parts attached and only needs a little TLC.

I'm ONLY interested in running GOOD quality ignition parts that DON'T fart out on me.
I consider some ignition parts as DISPOSABLE, throw away stuff, after they've been run a long time. Would I clean, gap, & run some old USED 83 year old PLUGS?---NOT EVEN ON A BET!

I have an NOS condenser that has a small Ford script on the tab and the script would face out. On the body of the condenser there is a rather large Ford script (~3/4"). Below it is the part number A12300 and below that is a circle (~1/4") that has the number 8 in it.

I have no time right now to take photos and try to post them. Perhaps later this afternoon or this evening.

Have one with Ford Script on tab with small circle with a 2 inside with the A-12300 below the attachment hole faces inward toward distributor...Has large Ford script on body of condenser, circle with a 2 inside and part number of A-12300.
