Well, if you're in Australia, you cannot replace incandescent bulbs or halogen bulbs with LED's legally. But many do use LED's, and the police don't seem to chase down such flagrant lawbreakers. It usually gets noticed when a car changes hands and requires a RWC for the rego transfer.

I put a set of Logolite LED bulbs in the original headlight sockets on my 1931 roadster. It has the original-style 6 volt generator. As mentioned, these do not make use of the original reflectors and do not require focusing. The LED unit contains its own optical setup. The light is very bright and throws a well-controlled beam. The color is more white than the original yellowish tint. The electrical draw is negligible. When I switch them on the ammeter barely moves.
I also put LED bulbs in the cowl lamps, and replacement flat LED panels in the tail lamps. I feel much more confident that following drivers can see them.

Last night our local chapter meeting did not adjurn until 9:30 PM, and i Had to drive across the county to get home. This was the first time I drove with the new LED bulbs. My experince was much like David in San Antonio's (above). Well worth the one time expense of $100.
