Tillotson carburetor question

While refreshing a Tillotson Carb and putting it back together I found that the upper pot metal piece is not flat. So when I am putting the 3 screws back together there is a gap large enough to where the gasket will not seal. Any suggestions on how to correct this? If it was the lower piece it looks like it would be easy to sand down flat.

Filing is a bad option here since the lower venturi is part of the upper casting. If you start filing by going "around" the venturi, you'll do more damage. Depending on how bad the warpage is, a double gasket may work. If not, you have to be very crafty in "bending" the warp back down. This is a delicate procedure, but it can yield success with lots of patience. I suggest you do a Fordbarn Search for more information on this subject as there are a couple of different ways to fix this problem and the explanations are long.

Easier to find another carburetor. A Marvel is an excellent choice too.

Use the oven method, works great
when you are done heating let it cool slowly in the oven, ready to go in the morning

Bolt the two halves together
Straddle the two halves with a G cramp
Apply heat with a propane torch to top half(not too much)
Gently tighten the G cramp until gap disappears.
I've done several this way with no problems.

I used a arbor press on my top. I just set up some little blocks and used the press to push on the middle of the carb. Little at a time with patience. Used a straight edge to verify. And test fitted to body of carb. Shouldn't taken pictures but I didn't. I know a lot of these carbs are bent from people over tightening them over the years.

Kitchen oven worked for me. A couple C-clamps @ 250 degrees. Tighten as you go.
