Default 7 Tooth Steering Shaft Dimension

Hi Model A'ers, I am working on adapting a Gemmer 2 tooth steering box to a '28-29 7 tooth setup. I need the dimension of how much the 7 tooth splined steering shaft sticks out above the bushing in the top of the steering column. This is the distance from the top of the bushing face to the end of the threaded portion of the splined shaft where the nut to hold the steering wheel threads on. I hope someone has a 7 tooth box or so laying around that can give me the dimension.

Thanks much,

John

The assembled unit I have for my ‘28 measures 1.90 inches from the bushing to the end of the shaft. I have a second unit which I disassembled for repair, so I can’t measure the distance you are looking for directly. On the disassembled shaft I did measure about 1.94 inches from the end of the shaft to the shiny portion of the shaft which I believe is where the bushing sits when assembled.

Thanks much. That approximate 2 inches is what I measured on one unit I checked but found out that wear and shims change things a bit. Again, thanks much for the reinforcing information. I greatly appreciate your time and effort!
