Default Solid driveshaft Questions

We are helping a friend with a 32 roadster project. It's a Brookville body on a repro frame. It has a 46-48 rear end and shortened torque tube ( to fit in the 32 chassis). The driveshaft is the original solid late style shaft now about 49 inches long.
In the original application I know the solid driveshaft needed a carrier bearing about mid point in the torque tube.
The question is:
Is the solid shaft OK to use in the shortened version WITHOUT the carrier bearing mid point in the torque tube?
At the much shorter length I don't think "whipping" would be an issue.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of set up?
Your comments/thought s would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Phil

In my experiences it will not be a problem if the shaft has near zero run-out. I have actually used welded drive shafts, of similar length, with no hint of bad behavior.
