1932 Ford Steering box leak
i have rebuilt steering box and I of course have the same problematic leak due to the flawed design at the end where the wiring goes. I bought a 31 end where it has the rod that goes in past the leaking area. I know its too big but was going to get a good welder to put a more befitting hollow rod on it. Does anyone have a better idea or know of a fix for this problem? Okie Joe said at one time one of the vendors made one like that at one time...??? thanks in advance for any focused advice..

Re: 1932 Ford Steering box leak
The '33 and up version of the end plate with tube attached works well. To avoid leaks at the end of the sector housing you need a grease seal installed which requires machining of the opening on the outer end of the sector housing. A big enough O ring may work as well. And there's the need for a thick-enough cork gasket between the sector housing and the steering box.

Re: 1932 Ford Steering box leak
Grease the steering in these old Fords with a low drip point
or low melting temp grease. Cheap chassis grease is usually a low melt grease. Even in cold temperatures the exhaust manifold almost touches the steering box and melts the grease enough to lube the box and just about stops leaking. G.M.

Re: 1932 Ford Steering box leak
I put a seal in my 32 box.
I cleaned the housing and wraped some tape around inside the brass bushing so it extended out past the flange. I filled the resulting cavity with JB Weld. I used a length of 1 1/8" bar and welded on a tab to hold the housing. I machined the JB Weld to accept a 1/8" by1/8" by 1 3/8" lip seal. No metal was cut. Never leaked a drop afterward.
