Canadian Model A'ers....The Four Wheel Brake Emblem

Just what was the AF-17810 Four Wheel Brake Emblem which was a "New Part" on February 24, 1928 BUT was soon made "obsolete" on April 24, 1928?

That is all I know about it.

Here in New Zealand 99% of the Model A's originated from Canada. In 40+ years of playing with them I have never seen one of these badges, in fact this is the first I have even heard of them. Fascinating stuff!

I looked at a nicely restored 26 Studebaker coupe the other day, and the rear 2 wheel brakes are HUGE.

Interesting question posted by Steve. Have seen many of these over the years, both on cars and parts fenders, but being a Ford man never paid much attention to the make, model, year, etc. Assumed they were some factory advertising as much as anything and don't recall ever seeing one on a Ford product. An internet search came up with some information from a history book on Canadian cars. Apparently whenever possible they were to be mounted on the left rear fender and the whole idea was to warn drivers in older vehicle that this fancy new job equipped with 4 wheel brakes might be able to stop a lot quicker than their's, so they should follow from a safe distance!

Has anyone ever seen one of these on a Ford car or fender??

Bill...I hadn't thought about "joy riding" in the Studebaker in years!
I was about 13 and I'd take her out at night, when my Mom was gone,
it's amazing I never got caught!

I took "Asthma" around the block, ONCE ONLY, & I was sweatin' like a PIG! Them old tires had flat spots & must have looked like PENTAHEXANUROGONS!!!
17 minutes after taking a pain pill, I can can lay down, close my eyes, & still hear the sound--BUT, she sure ran GOOD! I tole Ron Wolf NOT to mess with the plug wires, cuz yo' Mamma let me read Asthma's Owner's Manual & she had a STRANGE firing order!! (I meant the CAR, not yo' MAMMA) A friend of Chief's had an old 32-20, Pistol, made in Spain & "Dutch" sed it had an ODD firing order, also.
I also tole Ron that "the book" sed to take the top loader off & wash out the trans with GASOLINE, every 11 years, he LAFFED & sed he didn't have a gasket & it was almost time for his Annual Fire Dept. inspection

One of our members within "Canada's Capital A's" has the badge mounted on his rear left fender. It is a 29 Tudor and Colin and I attended the MARC meet in French Lick travelling 2175 plus miles return trip.

Here is mine. Note that it is solid without the center triangle removed. It was painted black over a white paint. It is a very thin and cheap tin.

I found this nailed on at my neighbor's garage wall back in the 50's. I recall that she was an old widow that had'nt ever driven but her husband had one of the early Model A that was purchased from Manley Motors in Belvidere, IL. They are the 2nd oldest Ford dealer in the country and are still operating.

Thanks for the background information. That was fascinating. I found it especially interesting to see so many different brands with the same badge. I have to wonder if some region mandated them for a while.

During the Model A era in Canada, many of the provinces required these red triangle warning plates on the rear left fender of vehicles equipped with four wheel brakes. This was to warn those motorists following with two wheel brakes to allow additional stopping space.
