Re: Towing a big truck
8 ply truck tires can look really bad and not blow up when running empty (no load ), and at moderate speeds. worst thing is they are usually not round, not soft, not balanced. but go bouncing down the road just fine

Re: Towing a big truck
Mine in the front certainly fit that description, with the added bonus of them being recaps!

Re: Towing a big truck
Truck tires certainly ain't cheap and some sizes are hard to find. It's common for semi tractor tires to be recapped due to the cost of new ones but the carcasses are generally only reused if they fall within a certain date range since original manufacture. Five to six years are common limitations. Rubber only lasts so long before it deteriorates to a point that it's unsafe. If you ever throw one of those recap treads, it will certainly get your attention. It can damage fenders as well. I've seen them run for a lot longer than 10-years but I've seen plenty fall apart on the road too.
