Default Lifting the front of my '34 engine

I am replacing the front engine mount pads on my '34 and to remove the upper pad I assume it will be necessary to raise the engine by possibly as much as 1/2". Can I just put a board across the front of the oil pan and jack it up or is something else needed. Thanks, Bill

I replaced my engine pads on my 1933 model B "4 cylinder" by jacking the a board under the engine pan till it is tight, then loosen the front pad bolts and jack up just enough to allow you to slide the pads out. TaKE OUT and replace one side at a time, that way you will always have something under the engine mounts. You may need a bit of tweeking to get the bolts to align.

I am going to do this real soon. It seems on the 1937 85hp that suspension pieces are in the way of the front of the pan. Might have to jack up a little further back. Or maybe put the board under the front of the pan and use a bottle jack up through the and in between the suspension parts? Any body do it this way?

As noted, best to raise one at a time the minimum required, with what ever devices and blocking that's needed. Primary concern: Avoid over-stressing/loading the rear part of the engine, especially the bell housing and transmission case. Two sets of hands better than one.

Instead of using a bit of timber betwix pan and jack, try using an old phone book. Slightly more forgiving and less likely to damage bottom of sump.

Jacking up the front of the engine you might want to consider removing the fuel pump stand from hitting up against firewall from possible damage. Or at least keep an eye on the filler tube while jacking up engine.

Is the fan close to the top tank of the radiator? (It is on my '33)
You might have to slide the generator down for clearance.

Thanks guys, excellent suggestions. I was eying that fuel pump stand earlier and thought it might be an issue. And, fortunately, I'll be doing this job with the radiator removed.
