On top of the spindle. There should not be room for the bearing between the spindle and the axle. If there is you do not have 35 spindles.

Mart.

Mart is right. On the 35/36 it goes on top of the spindle Puts the load on the flange of the kingpin.
On the later models the bearing goes under the axle, puts the load on the bottom of the axle like 51 Merc says.

My axle sets on the bearing, between the spindle bosses.has hydraulic brakes, someone might have put the axle and bp from a later model.when did they start this.I would think the axle should take the load

Position of the bearing is based upon the spindle used per your application. If you have the original 35 spindles the bearing is positioned on the top of the upper spindle boss and under the king pin brake actuator cup boss. If your vehicle is equipped with later spindles for a hydraulic brake conversion, the bearing mounts between the lower spindle boss and the axle beam boss, cup side pointing downward.

On the early ones, the king pin locking bolt carries the load so you want to be sure they are tight.
