Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Mine was 6 years old when my pictures were taken and I was in the Army. A week after that picture, I drove it from Orange Co, CA to Ft Hood, TX at 80 mph (Southern route), then a month later, I went back to CA at the same speed. No issues, at all and never noticed any wind sensitivity.
Mine was a 352, Auto, no A/C (would have been nice in June/July) and definitely, no power issues Frank |

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Before I bought my Fairlane I tried to buy a 60 two sedan, it was complete with the exception of the trunk lock cylinder. It was a base model so not much chrome witch makes it easier.
My idea for the car was a street strip car that was probably way past reasonable. The I6 would have been replaced with a large displacement 460 a c6 and 9". All things pass with deals not made. |

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
My first authentically "old" car was a '60 Starliner I bought when I got back from overseas in 84... 352 2v, cruise, set of T-bird polycast mags; white with a blue interior and black center roof.... my shipmates called it the "Batmobile" despite it being the wrong color, etc... all I have of it now are the two front fender scripts. To me, it looked like a land-locked jet.... almost like the 3rd gen 'Birds. Prettiest car I'd ever seen IMHO. Took it down to Orlando from Charleston one weekend and from Charleston up to Lynchburg Va the next; never had a problem with her. She simply wasted away over the years. As far as being "rust buckets", it's been my experience that almost every car sold in the North before rustproofing became common was a "rust bucket" before the engine was broken in...

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
That's how I feel about them, too. I like them better than all the full size Fords from '58 up.

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
I re-watched Twin Peaks recently I noticed that Norma of the R&R Cafe had a 60 Country Squire wagon.

Car-jacking is not new, as this photo of a 1960 Ford Sunliner proves. |

Very nice 1960 Ford Country Squire. These Wagons are neat. |

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Another 1960 Ford Country Squire. This example is missing the chrome around the side windows? |

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
The above photo is the cover of the original 1960 Ford Station Wagon Sales Brochure. From this photo, it appears that the Country Sedans didn't have chrome window surrounds, which is unusual? I expected the lower priced Ranch Wagons to lack this detail, but not the Country Sedans? I believe that JollyRoger is correct in saying that the Squire trim has been added to a lower series wagon in this case. |

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
This is a correctly trimmed 1960 COUNTRY SQUIRE -
1960 FORD - BODY TYPE CODE 71G EDIT - Further Clarification It appears, according to the 1960/64 MPC that the COUNTRY SEDAN(s) did come through with the window garnish moldings as did the COUNTRY SQUIRE. The non-SQUIRE Illl shows the trim for the 1960 71E Country Sedan (9 Pass) and the 1960 71F Country Sedan (6 Pass).

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Maybe the trim was painted?

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
I think the problem is in most of FORD ADVERTISING, it was constantly changing and a lot of the artist renditions were not all that accurate.
Cataloging does not specify whether all got the trim (possibly an option) but both COUNTRY SEDANS had the same BODY TYPE CODES (71E & F).

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Junk yards in the south-west used to be full of cars like that. Stacked up 3-high, the paint sand blasted off them. Also the glass was very pitted from the exposure to the elements.

Re: The forgotten 1960 Fords
Thanks for posting this picture. Looking at it closer, I don't think that that 60 Ford is a Squire? On the top are two 63 GM products, a Pontiac and Chev. Under the 60 Ford appears to be a 65 Cadillac? I can spot two 62 Fords. back then, a lot of good cars got scrapped, which is a real pity. |
