Ford Engine Green
Is there a readily available alternative to the Ford Engine green from the normal suppliers ( brattons, snyders, etc) cost is getting crazy plus shipping?
use to be a quart was priced at around $15 but now that's what it is for a pint plus shipping. Mike V had a mix of Rustoleum with Flag blue but calling Rustoleum they say they don't have that color? Any thoughts? I agree there seems to be a variety of shades from batch to batch/supplier, etc. Let me know if anyone has a good match that is more readily available in the local hardware/automotive paint supplies that will hold up and can also be brushed on like what's available from the Model A suppliers. Input appreciated! Larry Shepard |

Re: Ford Engine Green
Larry, Roy Nacewicz has what most people say is the closest to the original green. I don't think he sells it in aerosol, but brushing it works well too.

Re: Ford Engine Green
Brent,
thank you.. I use roy for Hardware and stuff now and then.. didn't think of the paint. I use brush on for most engine in engine compartment refreshes as it is the least evasive and looks good. I will check with them on Monday. Other thoughts appreciated as well from all! thanks Brent! Larry |

Re: Ford Engine Green
Por has the "Ford Green" engine enamel at $27 / qt. which should last a long time. Maybe ok for a new complete re-do. If anyone has tried it , let us know as I have no immediate need. The trick is brushing the stuff on thinly just to cover evenly.

Bill Hirsch 5670-5115/D4285 Ford Green 1 Quart can I am not sure, but I think I bought it from Bert's in Denver. I have also used: M210 Antique Ford Green (Pint can), or M200 (spray can) Both work well, I just like the Hirsch paint better . . . for no particular reason.

Re: Ford Engine Green
Wasn't it Mike V. who mixed up a few Rustoleum colors to make a good match about a year ago?

Re: Ford Engine Green
I looked forward a few years ago and painted the label on the tin of Ford green paint I had. When I need more, I plan on taking it to the hardware store and have them match it. I figure that will be easier AND cheaper than buying from a vendor, then paying freight, which because paint is considered flammable, would be very expensive, and impossible from any of the US vendors.

Mike, Your previous reply to a thread some time back is what sparked my thread. I couldn't find flag blue and called rustoleum and they said they didn't have it, but that Menards was their largest retailer.. and they had other blues. Have you purchased this recently? Is Royal the same.. close? I know Brent replied to try Roy Nacewitz.... which I will. Would just be nice to have another alternative that might be locally available and avoid shipping and time. Anyone know the base on the Ford Paint? I've cut it with straight reducer. I like it as it dries fast... rustoleum typically doesn't. Let me know if you guys have any more info on above. Thanks! Re: Ford Engine Green
I just am painting my engine now. 2 parts John Deere green and one part Rustoleum black, is as close as I can see. It looks exactly like my engine repainted in the late 60's.

Re: Ford Engine Green
I am using paint from KBS coatings
https://www.kbs-coatings.com/engine-paint.html The color is the ford green,, it looks black but it is not,,just "Tall Dark and Handsome" It seems to be extremely tough stuff,,probably similar to POR 15, though I have not used that but have read enough about it. With KBS the prep is everything,,,it is brushable, I quite like it so far. I included a pic of a brake drum that I beat on after the studs were out,,,, no chipping what so ever on either drum, I beat the snot out of them. I phos. acid etched everything,, It seems to have an extremely high pigment content, lots of solids as it covers instantly,,it might seem a bit pricey,,but it seems like real good stuff.(only the best for the A) I might add that I had already purchased paint for the restore, but won't use it now,,so far I'm convinced that this is the stuff. I would like to hear from anyone that has used it. |
